BCPC benchmarks at Barangay City Heights

The 2014 report of the DILG on the Barangay Council for Protection of Children (BCPC) in General Santos City, BCPC - Barangay Apopong is one of the 15 barangays that is non-functional. It is a sad note, that in spite the measures and activities conducted by the BCPC Apopong, it was still evaluated as non-functioning.

Taking it as a challenge, the BCPC Apopong started to revive its council by reorganizing and through strengthening activities like the University of Mindanao sponsored Orientation on the Revised Implementing Rules & Regulation of RA 9344 as amended by RA 10630 last April 28, 2015 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod of General Santos City.

BCPC Orientation with Fiscal Blanza

Last August 14, 2015, selected BCPC Apopong members visited Barangay City Heights who is a Hall of Famer in terms of BCPC in General Santos City. The group was welcomed by the Barangay Council of City Heights headed by Punong Barangay Lourdes Casabuena.

BCPC Apopong visits City Heights

The Action Officer of BCPC Heights, Chairperson on Social Services, Honorable Lourdes Gambalan together with some Street Educator Volunteers shared with the group the best practices that made them Hall of Famer. Barangay City Heights were generous enough that their programs can be replicated in Apopong.

BCPC Apopong learned that one of lacking aspects of the council is the documentation and proper reporting, which can be improved to make the BCPC truly functional.

Apopong DCCs celebrate Nutrition Month 2015

"Timbang Iwasto, sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo"

This year's Nutrition Month theme not only highlights the prevalence of undernourished children in the Philippines, it also centers on the importance of exercise or physical activity among today's generation. With the technology that keeps away children from outdoor activity like sports and other physical games, many children nowadays are becoming sickly.

To emphasize this year's Nutrition Month message, the Day Care Centers under Barangay Apopong which includes: Apopong A DCC (P.5 New Society), Apopong B DCC (Inside Barangay Hall Compound), Apopong B Annex DCC(P.3 Sto. Niño), Apopong C DCC (Purok 4 Lanton), Apopong 13 DCC (P.13 Lanton) and United Help Franconia DCC (Sogod), gathered together to celebrate the said activity last July 21, 2015 at the Barangay Gymnasium of Apopong.

Parents and Day Care Pupils prepared for the said occasion and joined Table Arrangement and Cooking Competition where they presented a nutritious, delicious and cheap dishes. Winning the Table Arrangement are the parents of Apopong C DCC while the parents from Apopong A DCC won the Cooking Competition.

As a proof that the Day Care Feeding program is effective, Day Care pupils from all centers showcased their talents through group presentations.

The government has proposed a total of P3.3 billion for the implementation of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) next year to ensure that 2.5 million day care pupils nationwide are well-nourished as they attend school.-Manila Bulletin
The Day Care Pupils also had fun with the parlor games prepared for them.

Gracing the event was First Lady Jane Rivera who ensures a support for Day Care Programs.

Kudos to all the Day Care Workers of Apopong: Teacher Margarito, Teacher Janeth, Teacher Lot-Lot, Teacher Divine and the rest of the workforce.

Special thanks to Mr and Mrs. Toto Paulate for providing the prizes and give-aways for the Nutrition Month Celebration.

Lanton Day Care recipient of SGMAF's Adopt-a-School Program

Lanton-Apopong - Purok 13 Lanton Day Care Center is not new to being a beneficiary of Non Government Organizations programs. The center was initially built through community effort and was later improved with the help of Rotary. Purok 13 Lanton DCC has almost 50 pupils with majority of the children belonging to indigent family and are usually undernourished, thus they were chosen by the Senators Gaudencio and Magnolia Antonino Foundation's (SGMAF) program.

SGMAF's Monthly Storytelling and Supplemental Feeding Program is a community development approach that facilitates education of children through values formation activities and nutritional feeding.

Facilitating the activities are the SGMAF scholars headed by Ms. Cheesy Mae Andal. Distribution of school supplies was also done bringing wider smiles from the children.

In behalf of the Purok 13 Lanton Day Care Pupils and the rest of Barangay Apopong, thank SGMAF!
