Senior Citizen Day 2015

Almost 700 senior citizens of Barangay Apopong attended the Senior Citizen Day last October 30, 2015 at the Barangay Gymnasium. The half-day affair includes an orientation, a raffle and a search for Gandang Lola and Gwapong Lolo. This is a follow-through activity, to the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration taking place every 1st week of October.



Through the amended Proclamation No. 1503 of the then President Fidel V. Ramos, the first week of October was declared as the Elderly Filipino Week. This is in accordance to the United Nations’ General Assembly Resolution 37/51 of December 3, 1982, in pursuant to the International Action Plan on Aging. The celebration gives importance to the roles of senior citizens in helping build the nation. 



One of the objectives of the Elderly Filipino Week is to address the issues concerning the older people’s sector. The program gave an hour for an orientation cum open forum wherein the Senior Citizens clarified some issues and raised their concerns facilitated by their Senior Citizen Federation President of Apopong Mr. Gualderberto Cabrido.




As to date, there are 26 active chapters of Senior Citizens in Apopong wherein the members attends a regularly monthly meeting, thus keeping them updated of the programs of the government especially for the elderly. This type of activity gives them time to bond with other Senior Citizen and enjoy at the same time encourages other senior citizens to be active in the community towards nation building.



The Barangay Officials of Barangay Apopong headed by Hon. Rogelio D. Pacquiao are a hundred and one percent supportive of the elderlies. The Local Government through the City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera and some SP members graced the event and event extended assistance in making the activity successful.



The Barangay Council of Apopong would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the following for making the Senior Citizens Day 2015 successful:

  1. Honorable City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera for the cash prizes, cash for raffle prizes and additional food.
  2. Honorable Vice Mayor Shirlyn Bañas for the delicious Piyaya

PWD Day 2015 Celebration

Pursuant to RA 9442 or famously known as the "Magna Carta for Disabled Persons", Barangay Apopong had been very diligent in keeping its PWD organized and active. The Barangay Council of Apopong had also made sure that they are given the benefits the law requires, thus an inclusion of a budget portion for PWD affairs.

Second week of July is the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week in the Philippines. Now on its 37th year from its conception, this year's theme is "Health and Wellness Opportunities for Persons With Disabilities Toward Inclusive Development For all"

Barangay Apopong joins the Citywide celebration

In General Santos City, the PWDs from the 26 barangays were gathered last July 20, 2015 the Robinsons Mall of GenSan. The whole day affair started with a motorcade. This is support of spreading awareness among its constituents on the Magna Carta for PWDs and the prohibitions on verbal and nonverbal ridicule and vilification against PWD.

Meanwhile, in Barangay Apopong, a special day was dedicated for its active PWDs through a simple celebration, last July 31, 2015. The activity includes, on-the-spot singing contest, parlor games, brief orientation regarding their privileges and more.





The activity was made possible through the support of the Barangay Council of Apopong headed by the Punong Barangay Rogelio D. Pacquiao, PWD Apopong Officers headed by Mrs. Gelig and the Social Services staff. Special acknowledgment to the following individuals for extending their generous assistance in making the Apopong PWD Day joyous and special:

Community-Initiated Medical Mission at Sto. Nino, Successful!

A medical mission and an operation tuli were conducted at the Basketball Court of Purok 4, Sto. Niño Barangay Apopong, General Santos City on May 16, 2014. The said activity was initiated by the Barangay Apopong Forever Movement Inc. (AFMI) headed by the AFMI President Jose Paulate with the partnership of the Achievement Integrity Movement (AIM), the Office of the 1st District of South Cotabato Representative Pedro B. Acharon Jr. and the Trade Union Workers Health Organization, Inc.

A total of eight-eight (88) Senior Citizens were given the privilege to consult their illnesses to Dr. Fidel Penamante a family medicine doctor and were then given medical advices and some medicines after the consultation. Meanwhile, more than 70 children ages ranging from 5 to 15 were circumcised and were given free medicine ( for the immediate relief of their wounds ) .

BARANGAY COUNCIL OF APOPONG FOR THE TERM 2013-2016

November 28, 2013 - A special meeting with the Barangay Council of Barangay Apopong of 2011-2013 to recognize the out-going Barangay Council Members- Honorable Councilors Leonora C. Arana, Ponciano Maramara, Roger Lambot and Arlen Carreon was held a day after the Mass Oath Taking Ceremony of the New Set of Barangay Officials of General Santos City.

YEAR-END REPORT FOR 2013

We have missed to share to you dear constituents and avid readers for the past five months some important updates and activities. Here is a wrap up of some of the worth sharing Barangay activities and happenings.

Barangay Apopong 30th Foundation Anniversary Celebration

Yes, Barangay Apopong is now 30 years old. To celebrate its founding anniversary, 5 days of activities were held: Thanksgiving Mass, Zumba Party, Purok Night, Ginang ng Apopong, Miss Teen Apopong among others.

With the prevalent signs of Climate Change affecting our country it is high time to strengthen the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Budget Planning and Community-Based Disaster Preparedness Trainor's Training were held respectively, tapping the community leaders of the disaster prone areas in the Barangay.

Barangay Annual Investment Planning

Last November 15, 2013, 88 participants composed of Purok Chairpersons, School Heads, Committee Heads, NGO representatives, Sectoral Representatives and the Barangay Council gathered for the Barangay Annual Investment Planning. The whole day activity resulted with the presentation of proposed projects and programs to be included in the Barangay Annual Budget CY 2014. Though not all shall be included, the importance of BAIP is its legal basis for other funding agencies to allocate budget for requesting parties.

Series 2 of Kasalan sa Barangay Successful

After the much participated Kasalan sa Barangay in celebration of the Barangay Anniversary held last September 21, 2011 at Barangay Apopong, another mass weddding was held last January 15, 2012 at the Purok 1 Sto. Niño as part of the celebration of Patronal Fiesta for Senyor Santo Niño.



The said mass wedding is the first for Apopong for the year 2012, was officiated by the Honorable City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio. Ten couples from different puroks of Sto. Niño participated the mass wedding. During the celebration unity among the community was greatly evident through the leadership of the Purok Chairperson Ponciano Cimagala.

Building Wiring Installation Skills Trainees Graduated...

The Sangguniang Kabataan Apopong appropriated more or less Twenty Thousang Pesos for a Building Wiring Installation Skills Training for the Calendar Year 2011. Only few of the SK projects through the leadership of SK Chairperson Laurienz Janine Fernandez, there are Twelve beneficiaries who succesfully graduated last December 19, 2011 at the Session Hall of the Barangay, out of the 17 original young people who enrolled.

With the help of the Local Government Unit of General Santos City thru the Youth Affairs and Development Office, who facilitated the training and in coordination of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Sarangan--Gensan Office, who provided the efficient training - 12 hardworking and technically skilled out-of-school youth from Barangay Apopong received their Certificate of Attendance of the Building Wiring Installation NC I Skills Training duly signed by Maisalam G. Macarimbang, Al Haj, the Provincial Director- TESDA XII and by the Honorable City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio during their simple graduation ceremony.

Trained under the skillful eye of Mr. Jonas T. Cruz from November 7 - December 7, 2011 at the GSC School for the Arts, the successful graduates are as follows:

JOIN APOPONG'S BATTLE OF THE BANDS 2011





Barangay Apopong's KALAMPAGAN: Battle of the Bands is gearing up again to yet again a heart pumping and head bumping competition  this September.

So if you have a band and want to join here are the mechanics and guidelines:

  1. Contest is open to all amateur bands in the 1st District of South Cotabato with a minimum of 3 - 8 members. All band members must not be above 25 years old.
  2. Participating bands will be required to perform two (2) appropriate cover song during eliminations, 15 minutes performance time and 3 minutes set-up time limit. 
  3. Ranking system shall be used.  Should there be a tie between groups; the rating system shall go back to the actual average points. In case a tie still ensues, the Chairperson will have to break the tie.  In no instance shall a tie for the top prize shall be declared.  The decision of the judges will be final and executory.
  4. Judging will be based on the following criteria:
     Musicality (30%)
     Performance Quality (30%)

    Presentation  (30%)
    Audience Impact  (10%)

SK's OPERATION TULI for SUMMER 2011

The Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Apopong sponsored a FREE CIRCUMCISION ACTIVITY for the young boys of Apopong,  Summer of 2011. The activity tagged as "OPERATION TULI" is only one of the summer activities this youth organization conducts.

Headed by the SK Chairperson Laurienz Janine Fernandez the Sangguniang Kabataan  went to different puroks on different date schedules. They visited the following puroks: Purok 1 Sto. Niño - May 13; San Lorenzo Ruiz - May 17; New Society - May 18-19; Rosadel Lanton - May 20; Purok Maunlad - May 23 and Purok 2 Lanton - May 24. Aside from the schedule of the SK, they also gave medicines to Lanton High School who also conducted the same activity.

They kicked-off the activity at Purok 1 Sto. Niño together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as the International Families Day is being celebrated last May May 13, 2011. 82 young boys availed the free circumcision during that day. Aside from the mentioned activity, the SK and PDEA also conducted a "Libreng Gupit" activity in preparation for the school opening.

A total of 500 children availed the OPERATION TULI for the Summer of 2011, wherein the beneficiaries also received free medicines. The fund use for this activity is from the Annual Budget of Sangguniang Kabataan of Apopong.

Considering that not all parents can send their male young children to a doctor to get circumcised, this kind of activity from Sangguniang Kabataan is worth lauded and worth replicated by other young leaders in their respective Barangays.

For the residents of Barangay Apopong, the Sangguniang Kabataan is now preparing for a DENTAL MISSION where you can get a free tooth extraction. Watch out for the Schedule!

APOPONG EXPRESS UP WITH A GOOD START FOR SUMMERKADAHAN

Barangay Apopong through its Sangguniang Kabataan led by SK Chaiperson Laurienz Janine Fernandez  is  participating  Summerkadahan 2011 - a Summer Youth Extravaganza of the Hon. Darlene Antonino-Custodio, Hon. Pedro B. Acharon Jr. and the Sangguniang Kabataan.


Barangay Apopong has entry for the Basketball event both the Junior and Senior Division. The Teams are under the Oval Bracket where Barangays: Dadiangas South, Dadiangas North, Dadiangas East, Dadiangas West, San Isidro, City Heights, Bula, Sinawal and Lagao also belong.

Apopong Express Junior and Senior Teams won on its first game againts Barangay Dadiangas South last April 27, 2011. It is good start for the Team giving them a moral booster on the early part of the tournament.

SK Conducts TEAMBUILDING


It is Summerkadahan Season once again. Now, on its 9th Year, Barangay Apopong supports the Summer Youth Extravaganza brain-child of the then 1st District of South Cotabato Representative Darlene Antonino-Custodio - SUMMERKADAHAN.

With its final line-up of players for Senior and Junior Divisions, the Sangguniang Kabataan Officials thru the leadership of the SK Chairperson Laurienz Janine Fernandez, organized a Team Building Activity as a follow-up to the Healthy Lifestyle Promotion conducted by Summerkdahan.

Held last April 12-13, 2011 at the Dolores Tropica Resort, Bawing, General Santos City, the APOPONG TEAM consist of almost 50 players, underwent Physical Activities that tested not their strength and endurance but their ability to work harmoniously as a team. Divided into two groups - Junior Group and Senior Group, they hurdled the tasks Blind Folded Snake Game, Bridges, Elevator Game and more.

A processing of the tasks they finished followed thru John Rex Galdo. He then gave the team Tips on how to make their Team Successful. Geared toward a common goal - TO BE A CITY CHAMPION - Apopong Team will work hard to reached their goals by being good sports and an inspiration to others.

Aim High Kabataan Speaker's Bureau helped the Sangguniang Kabataan of Apopong facilitate the program.

1ST SEM BARANGAY ASSEMBLY 2011


Pursuant to the Proclamation No. 342 "Declaring the Last Saturday of March and the Third Week of October", Barangay Apopong, together with the rest of the Barangays in the Philippines conducted a Synchronized Barangay Assembly last March 26, 2011.

In accordance to the Local Government Code Section 397(b), the Barangays Presented the Accomplishment and Financial Reports from July-December 2010. Punong Barangay Rogelio Pacquiao and the Barangay Treasurer Grace Atienza does the reporting respectively.

Aside from the reporting, the Committee Chairperson on Solid Waste Management Leonora Arana also discussed one of the pressing issues and concerns of the Barangay - Solid Waste Management and Global Warming. Emphasizing that the Ordinance on Solid Waste Management will be fully implemented. 

The Barangay Assembly were also informed on the details and importance of the Barangay Base Institutions, like the Barangay Development Council among others.

Present were the Barangay Officials, the Barangay Kagawads, Datu Mike Mamacog, Leonora Arana, Roger Lambot, Ponciano Maramara, Alice Carreon and Lou Bernadette Dulay who served as the Master of Ceremony. The Punong Barangay Pacquiao is also present as well as the Barangay Treasurer and Barangay Secretary.

Punong Barangay prayed for unity among the people of Barangay Apopong for its peace and development.

BARANGAY APOPONG's PUROK OFFICIAL 2011 INDUCTED

After two years of postponing the Purok Elections in Barangay Apopong, finally last February 5, 2011, syncronized elections for 49 Puroks were held.


With the assistance of the teachers of New Society Elementary School and Lanton Elementary and High Schools  who served as COMELEC, 47 Puroks now has new set of officials.

March 18, 2011 - Mass Induction of the Newly Elected Purok Officials took place at the Barangay Apopong Gym. Punong Barangay Rogelio Pacquiao served as the Inducting Officer.

They may not be read and/or seen in the Local Government Code, Purok Officials played a vital role in keeping peace and order in the neighborhood they lead. The officials are the Front Liners of the Government in delivering its services. This is pure volunteerism given the fact that they are not being paid for the services they give to their neighbors. An applause for the new Purok Leaders of Apopong! May you work for the good of the majority and not for a few!
